Covid-19 Update

We are all one  Today is much different than it was a year ago across the globe. What was once a normal way of living now is a thought of yesterday. The world is hurting. So many uncertainties for the future ahead of us. We now are having to stay home, go out for only necessities, many have lost jobs, we are separated from the ones we love and some have lost their lives. If you would’ve told us at the beginning of 2020 if any of this was possible, we would’ve thought you were crazy.

We never imagined we would be here today. We lost sponsors this month due to families losing their income and work being put on hold. We understand that times are challenging and right now is a time where we have to cut back where we can, and unfortunately, this has created a ripple effect into the operation of Project Salone & Pikin House in Sierra Leone.

The Streets are Quiet
There are currently two confirmed cases in Sierra Leone and with this comes a country wide lockdown. Today when we opened up the news to see what was happening in the country we love so dearly it broke us to see what was happening in the streets of the city of Freetown. This country has hurt enough from the war and is just now beginning to heal from the tragedy that Ebola caused.

The lockdown in Sierra Leone requires that all humans remain inside their homes. The issue here is that many weren’t prepared to be home with the necessities needed to remain indoors. Food wasn’t purchased, medical necessities aren’t on hand and most don’t have the option of running water in their homes, and some don’t have any homes at all.

The police aren’t showing mercy to anyone who breaks this law.

What Matters Most Protecting the most vulnerable. These beautiful children are safe within our homes. Staff prepared many weeks ago. Food and medical supplies have been purchased for this month, the children have remained in the compound and learning at home had already began. As proactive as we have been and continue to be, we still have so much uncertainty ahead of us.

The generosity and love of our sponsors is what keeps these children safe and protected. Our house strictly runs on donations from individuals. We want to be very transparent with you and this is where we are. We are coming to you humbling asking that if there was ever a time to partner with Project Salone the time is now when these children need it most.

Our donations supply medical care, caregiver social worker and security salaries, food and drinking water, electricity, water, education, compound repairs, a home and so much more. We fear that with the lack of donations coming in our next step will be made to cut staff at our home. But what you don’t understand is that our staff IS family to these children, they are the one thing constant, a place of safety, love and comfort. Cutting our budget is already hard enough, losing staff would be the first thing to go which would be detrimental to their healing, care, safety and beyond. We really don’t want to be in this position at the moment and hope and pray that we don’t have to think any further than that.

Our current Partner Goal is that we are asking new partners to sponsor a caregiver so that their job is secure, their personal families are taken care of and they can remain with our children at the center. No monthly sponsorship commitment is too big or too small!

Become a Partner Now!  Go to www.projectsalone.com now to join hands (social distancing) style is protecting the most vulnerable and creating the safest space possible for our children.

Once you’ve done that complete the challenge by posting on our Facebook page and challenge your friends to join you! We will be sending out Project Salone tshirts to our new partners to share our gratitude and say THANK YOU!  Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for all that you do! Praying for you and the whole world as we navigate the now together. You are so loved. Be light. Spread light.

Sincerely,
Project Salone
